Description
Very rare and original, ca1900 Cast Iron, Push Down, Glass Marquee Type, Dutch Masters Cigars Countertop, Advertising Cigar Cutter. This very attractive, Advertising Cigar Cutter measures approx. 7 3/4” tall to the top of the reverse on glass marquee and 5" by 7 1/4" at the base. The Cutter features a heavy, nickel plated, cast iron base with a two hole, push down Cigar Cutter mechanism. The Cutter is topped by a nearly square, glass marquee that measures 5” by 4 3/4” with a shape cut, chromolithograph, Cigar Box label type image picturing the classic Dutch masters Pilgrim Court with text above that reads “Dutch Masters” and text below that reads “10¢ Havana Cigar”. The back side of the glass marquis retains its original, white colored reverse painted surface.
The Push Down style Cigar Cutter works by placing the tip of the Cigar into one of the two holes of the rocker in front of the marquee and pushing the cigar downward. This action causes the rocker to move downward while a blade passes over the hole and nips off the end of the cigar. When the downward pressure is relieved, the rocker returns to its fully upright position. There is a spring, hinged trap on the underside of the base to allow the cigar tips to be removed.
The Cigar Cutter does not carry a manufacturers mark but we believe that it was likely manufactured by the Brunhoff Manufacturing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.
This very rare and very attractive, Cast Iron Advertising Cigar Cutter is in very good condition. There are no cracks, chips, breaks, repairs or physical damage of any kind to the cast iron or glass elements. The nickel plated surface has scattered small spots of loss and some surface clouding which likely will clean up significantly. The cutter mechanism is intact, strong and in excellent working condition - the blade is sharp and well preserved. The reverse on glass marquee has a small amount of unobtrusive edge wear as can be seen in the scans below.
A very rare and original, ca1900 Cast Iron, Push Down, Glass Marquee Type, Dutch Masters Cigars Countertop, Advertising Cigar Cutter and a fantastic addition to any collection!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a .00 "packing fee" - the .00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the .00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
