  • Condition: Boxed (boxes show wear and moderate deterioration from storage) and little layout use. The buffet has a vertical scratch on one side (see photo) and an unsuccessful attempt has been made to polish this out. The second class car has a loose corridor connector.The seat units from Jouef were a nightmare, expanding in the sealed boxes and breaking free, looking like roller coasters inside the coaches. This has been rectified by cutting the buffet unit to show only the seating in the bays, and by removing, cutting and replacing the units in the other cars (repainting the unit in the second class car). This has been done to a decent standard.Hook and loop couplings are fitted and the alternative couplings are not in the boxes.

    Description

    Lot of 3 Jouef British Rail Mark 3 coaches - First, Second and Buffet. Scale length and may be awkward on 15" radius curves and below. Wheels are metal and the profile described by one enthusiast is "pizza cutter".
    The first class coach has the correct yellow line above the windows and the correct layout of one bay per window giving 8 bays of 6 seats giving 48 seats. The second is also correct with the 'hit and miss' seating which squeezed in an extra 8 passengers so that the seating and windows don't quite line up on the body shell, with 8 bays of 8 seats and 8 seats with 'airline-style' tables seating 72 per coach. I'm not sure about the buffet but the table tops have white 'tablecloths'. Couplings are hook and loop and are Hornby compatible. The original packages included continental and Peco couplings as an option. These are not included.
    These are nice coaches and I'm looking for each with .50 for the buffet because of the scratch.
    So .50 for the coaches and a contribution to shipping of .50 , even with the most outrageous 10% sales 'tax' will leave you a few pennies under all-in for a 3-coach set of this iconic stock, suitable for locomotive haulage or, if you remove the buffers, for a high speed Inter-City 125.
    I believe that Jouef set up a manufacturing base in Ireland and these are a product from that era. I am open to correction here.
